How do you feel about the colour black?

One of my first tasks is to think and discuss the colour black. The bright and dark sides to it, the unique and cliche aspects of black in fashion, film and culture. Now this task has actually hit me quite hard, because black is just so classic; the little black dress, the classic black leather jacket, black lace, black vinyl, black and white films, the fact it can basically go with every other colour even when it's clashing. It's difficult to discuss the innovative side to black. My main thought is the idea of black culture, in reference to the culture of black communities in other parts of the world, and how it is becoming more and more accepted, which is what this world needs; acceptance, diversity, equality. However this isn't new new, this is something we've been fighting for for too long, and so saying it's original is a lie, it's just finally becoming more recognised, promoted and celebrated within fashion.

The colour black has represented different things throughout history; before the 20th century black was worn to signify mourning, modern day people have connected black with goths, death, horror, depression, but also nowadays it's so normal and worn by everyone you can't necessarily connect it with any certain emotion, or person. So once again i've come to a dead end. What is innovative and black? What is new? How DO I feel about the colour black? All questions I have a week and a half to answer. I shall document my findings.

Ta Ta for now, my lovelies.
